Green Tea

Green Tea for Health and Weight Loss

I have a skinny mini friend who comes to visit quite often. When I offer her tea or coffee she always asks for green tea. The first couple of times I didn’t have any … so she fished a tea bag out of her purse. Deciding that I wanted to be a good hostess I then went to the Chinese Market place and got a big supply.

So what is the DEAL with green tea?

I also went to work to find out “what is the deal with Green Tea?”

With all those good things to say about Green Tea … there is also the weight loss benefits that have been making their way into the news and into the development of new green tea products.

Green tea contains extremely powerful and potent antioxidant components. Green tea takes 5th place in the list of the best antioxidants. This is due to the green tea bioflavonoids that protect your cells from the damaging free radicals.

The super antioxidant in Green Tea extracts are called Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG). These are supposed to be 100 times more potent antioxidant than Vitamin C and E.

Clinical tests have shown that EGCG inhibits the growth of new cancer cells and kills some existing ones without damaging the normal cells. EGCG also may prevent thrombosis, which is one of the causes of heart attacks and stroke.

Back to the weight loss part of it ..

The weight loss is due to the EGCG antioxidant that increases energy expenditure and accelerates fat burning. Accelerated fat burning is a GOOD thing!
